ACE officially launched in Sylvan Lake
On
Wednesday, Nov. 20 the Alberta Active, Creative, Engaged Community program was
launched in Sylvan Lake.
The initiative is designed to enhance the quality of life in rural Alberta by
strengthening community leadership, collaboration and innovation through
recreation, parks, arts, culture and heritage.
“We’re very fortunate to be part of this initiative,” Olivia Knight, Marketing
Clerk for the Town of Sylvan Lake said.
“It was a competitive process that saw over 40 communities apply to become ACE
participants and Sylvan Lake was lucky enough to be chosen as one of the 10
communities in this year’s selection.”
According to Knight the ACE initiative recognizes the unique needs each
community has. “That’s the great thing about the program,” Knight said. “They
allow us to determine what will help improve the community through health,
wellness, recreation, culture and sport.
The town has been assigned a coach for the next two years in order for the
program to provide support while the community determines what ACE means to
Sylvan Lake.
“The residents of Sylvan Lake can work together and benefit from over $55,000 of
support in cash and in-kind services that are available to us through the
initiative,” Knight explained.
On Nov. 20 ACE Ambassador met with councilors, local business members and youth
to discuss the contextual changes society has seen and how it has affected the
way communities come together.
“You don’t need to be sick to get better,” Hill said. He encouraged Sylvan Lake
to embrace user-driven programs to promote growth and development among
community leaders.
According to ACE Communities, ACE leaders are advocates for quality of life and
have the ability to work proactively to promote services that deliver essential
benefits to the community.
