This project was managed and funded in part by Alberta Culture and Tourism (ACT). The Sylvan Lake Chamber of Commerce sub-committee known as the Waterfront Commercial District (WCD) Revitalization Committee served as the steering committee for this initiative. The project consulting team was led by Expedition Management Consulting who were responsible for working with the steering committee to assess our level of visitor friendliness in five key areas:
Community volunteers contributed towards the strategy between May and August, 2013. Community tourism issues and opportunities, priorities and strategies for success were discussed and determined.

In early 2014 the Town of Sylvan Lake Council adopted its Corporate Tourism Strategy: 2013-2018. As Strategic Priority #1, the Town first needed to determine the economic impact and value of tourism industry in Sylvan Lake.
