Yard/Kitchen Waste Collection Notice Annual service ends
on October 31
The last day for yard/kitchen waste curbside collection is Monday, October 31. You
may continue to bring your yard/kitchen waste to the Waste Transfer Facility 24
hours/day.
Important Changes to Toilet Rebate Program
Those residents or businesses that change their high volume flush (13 litres or
more) toilet MUST install a dual flush toilet to qualify for a utility rebate.
All new construction, or renovations to water fixtures requiring a permit, MUST
install low water use fixtures as per bylaw.

Snow Removal Schedule
The Town of Sylvan Lake endeavors to protect the safety of the public through timely
maintenance of its transportation system during the winter months.
Roadways in the Town of Sylvan Lake are prioritized into four categories for the
purposes of clearing accumulations of snow or ice:
PRIORITY âAâ Routes - Major arterial routes, downtown business corridor,
railway crossings, RCMP, Fire hall and ambulance sites;
PRIORITY âBâ Routes - School zones and major residential distribution
routes;
PRIORITY âCâ Routes - Remainder of residential and industrial roads and
streets not listed as âAâ and âBâ Routes;
OTHER Routes - generally include alleys.

Yard Waste Collection
From the first Monday in April, weekly, to the last Monday in October
(including statutory holidays)
Yard Waste includes garden waste,leaves and grass clippings
Please remember:
Place yard waste in an acceptable container or biodegradable bag.
Place yard waste where your garbage is collected.
Affix a free “yard waste program” decal to your approved yard waste
container (not on the biodegradable bags).
Decals are available from the Town Office or Public Works building at no charge.
Yard waste must be kept dry by using lids on containers.
Biodegradable bags are available at many local merchants.
Acceptable containers:
Yard Waste in containers 100 litres or larger MUST be in biodegradable bags.
Yard Waste in containers under 100 litres may be loose.
Biodegradable compostable bags must be no larger
than 65 cm. X 90 cm. (26” X 36”).
The maximum weight per unit is 23 kg.
Drop off:
Leaves and grass clippings may be dropped off at the Waste Transfer Facility
from Wednesday to Saturday 9 A.M. until 5 P.M. exclusive of statutory holidays.
The facility is located 1 kilometer east of the round-about on Highway #11A and
0.5 kilometers South on Range Road #12.
Public Works
The Town of Sylvan Lake provides water and sewer services to town residents.
To inquire about connecting or disconnecting water/sewer services call Public Works
at 887-2800. For billing inquiries call the Utilities Clerk at the Town’s
main office at 887-2141.
The Town of Sylvan Lake Water and Sewer Systems are self-supporting utilities. That
means that the cost of running these systems, including reserves for future capital
projects, is fully funded through utility billings. To improve the quality of the
wastewater discharged into Cygnet Lake and fulfill the town's commitment to environmental
stewardship, a major upgrade of the Sylvan Lake Wastewater Treatment system is underway.

Mandatory Water Conservation May 1 to Sept 30
Watering of lawns, gardens, streets, yards or grounds between the hours of
12:00 pm and 7:00 pm is prohibited
· Customers whose building address is an odd number may water their lawns, gardens,
street, yards or grounds on odd numbered days
· Customer whose building address is an even number may water their lawns, gardens,
street, yards or grounds on even numbered days
· Customers with new sod or seeded lawns may water daily for a period not to exceed
six weeks
Garbage Collections
Household garbage is collected weekly throughout the Town. All garbage must
be in animal proof containers and placed at the point of collection by 8:00 am the

There is a 3 unit limit with each unit not to exceed 25 kg (55 lbs). Extra garbage
tags can be purchased at the Town Office – 4926 50th Avenue for $1.00 each.
Spring and Fall Cleanups
Twice a year the Public Works Department for the Town of Sylvan Lake provides
the residents of the Town the opportunity to dispose of unwanted furniture and appliances
at no charge. There is a maximum of 3 items per household. Typical items collected
are: stoves, washers, sofas, etc. Items NOT collected are: construction debris,
automotive parts and appliances that contain Freon. Items must be registered for
pick up by calling Public Works at 887-2800 two weeks before the scheduled collection
date. Schedule dates will be published in the Sylvan Lake News and posted on the
News Section of this website.
Hazardous Waste Disposal
Paint exchange and hazardous waste round-up is held in the fall of each year.
Items such as paints, solvents, roofing tar and adhesives can be disposed of at
this event. The schedule date will be published in the Sylvan Lake News and posted
on the News Section of this website.
Recycling Program
The Town of Sylvan Lake has introduced a curb side Green Box Recycle Program.
Place your Green Box full of recycling where your garbage is collected on the scheduled
recycle day by 8:00 am. To view the recycle schedule click here:

Sylvan Lake businesses can recycle cardboard by placing their cardboard in the Cardboard
Only recycle bins located @ 1 Erickson Drive.
YARDWASTE may be dropped off during the Waste Transfer Site hours of Wed-Sat 9am-5pm.
The Waste Transfer Site is located on Range Road 12 (1 km east of Sylvan Lake on
Hwy 11A). Watch for directional signage.

Waste Transfer Station
Waste Transfer Site Winter Hours:
The Waste Transfer site is open from Wednesday to Saturday 9 AM – 5 PM exclusive
of statutory holidays.
The yard/kitchen waste receiving area is open 24/7.
The facility is located 1 km. east of the round-about on Highway 11A and south .5
km. on RR15.
Items accepted include:
• Paint and paint cans (no charge)
• Household garbage
• Tires
• Metal items
• Wood
• Electronic waste (no charge)
• Yard waste (no charge)
Streets
The Town of Sylvan Lake Public Works Department carries out street cleaning,
sign replacement, line painting, sanding, and snow removal. Cleaning and snow removal
are done according to a priority schedule. Except in emergency situations, streets
are signed "No Parking" 24 Hours before the start of snow removal and
spring-cleaning. For more information contact Public Works at 887-2800.
Slippery Sidewalks
There is free sand and salt combination available to residents of Sylvan Lake for
use on their sidewalks. This is available at Public Works on the outside of the
old recycle compound. You must bring your own container with you. No commercial
users please.
Skating Rink On The Lake
The Town of Sylvan Lake Public Works Department builds and maintains a large
skating surface on the lake which is very popular with residents and visitors to
the Town. the rink measures 250m x 100m.
