(Central Alberta) – On Monday, October 26 in Banff the Central Alberta Tourism Committee, under the marketing campaign “Alberta Sweet 16” won the 2009 provincial Alto Award for Marketing Partnership.

“We are thrilled to win this award. It is great to be recognized for the excellent marketing partnership that we have in Central Alberta. This year we had 10 municipalities who came together and pooled resources in order to further promote all the awesome attractions and events we have right here in our own backyard,” stated Dean Schweder, Chair, Central Alberta Tourism Committee and Tourism & Economic Development Coordinator, Town of Rocky Mountain House.

The 10 committee members include the following municipalities and tourism organizations; Innisfail, Lacombe, Ponoka, Red Deer (Tourism Red Deer), Red Deer County, Rimbey, Rocky Mountain House, Stettler, Sylvan Lake, and Wetaskiwin.

From May long weekend to September long weekend, Alberta Sweet 16 promotes a feature event, along with all the other great activities that are going on each weekend in Central Alberta.

The marketing campaign is centered on their website (http://www.albertasweet16.com ), which promotes local events and attractions through a very user friendly year round calendar. “Tourism is the fourth largest industry in Alberta and generates over $5 billion in revenues each year. Therefore, it is crucial that Central Alberta remains competitive in this industry and that we continue to send the message that our area is a wonderful tourism destination,” concluded Schweder.
Sylvan Lake is the perfect destination spot for the entire family at any time of year. We are among Canada’s ten best beaches and offer a seasonal playground.

Take advantage of the snow and cold by joining us for winter sports like skating, fishing and snowmobiling. All of the possibilities make our longest season a treat.
We have a wide variety of accommodations ranging from luxurious hotels to clean, rustic campgrounds. Our superb restaurants offer everything from quick beach food, to quiet, romantic steak dinners.

Sylvan Lake is definitely a summer family destination with our Wild Rapids Waterslide, go-karts, lake cruises, golf courses, water sports and campgrounds. Hockey camps, summer camps, paint-balling and swimming in our award winning Aquatic Center are also excellent reasons to visit our town.

You choose the season, and we’ll supply the fun. Why not swing into Sylvan Lake this spring to watch the waterfowl migrate and the lake burst into life? If it’s the summer you love, come take advantage of our lakeshore where there is no end to the possibilities.

Walk along the water’s edge in the fall and experience our sunsets; and if you have the opportunity to drive into our town on a crisp, winter day, you’ll see the picturesque view of our frozen lake covered with young families skating, playing shinny and snowmobiling. We are an active town that takes advantage of our winter months in classic Canadian form!
