Waste Management

As a lakeside community, our focus in on the environment, a healthy lake and alternative methods to disposing of waste. The Town of Sylvan Lake not only offers automated garbage collection services, but weekly recycling pick up, and a host of unique programs aimed at reducing the amount of waste that goes into landfills.

Drop 'N' Swap

The Drop 'N' Swap Program is a year-round program based at the Sylvan Lake Transfer Site.  Residents can leave or swap gently used items for free as a means of reducing the amount of materials tossed away as waste. 

Items accepted include electronics, unwanted gifts, furniture, appliances and more!

We do NOT accept children's items, bedding material or any unsafe items.

 


Pitch In Week

An annual event. Register your neighbourhood, sports team, church group, etc. and pitch it to keep Sylvan beautiful!We will supply the garbage bags, provide bag pick-up and bring coffee and snacks for all participants!Please contact Public Works at 403-887-2800 to register or for more details.

 


 

Toxic Waste Round-Up

A Toxic Waste Round-up is held annually in the Fall at the Municipal Operations Building located at #1 Industrial Drive. The next Round Up is Saturday, Sept. 13 from 10:00 am to 20:00 pm. Bring your unwanted paint, cleaning supplies, and other hazardous household products for no-charge disposal.

Household items accepted include:

  • Paints
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Chemicals

This program is not available for commercial customers.
