Two major projects to receive provincial funding
The Town of Sylvan Lake is pleased to announce that we will receive just over $1.76 million in Municipal Stimulus Program funding to help with economic recovery within our community.
The funding is allocated towards two key projects:
- The Pogadl Park, Phase 2, project will create local jobs for Alberta-based contractors, attract tourism to the Sylvan Lake area, improve the quality of life for residents with better access to recreational amenities, and attract future business investment.
- The NexSource Recreation Centre Lounge upgrades – the Viewpoint, will create and sustain local jobs and provide a more inviting, inclusive, and accessible space for residents and visitors.
“Sylvan Lake is one of the most beautiful places in Alberta, attracting thousands of tourists every year. This $1.7 million investment from the Municipal Sustainability Project will help Sylvan Lake grow and create jobs for Albertans at a time when they need it most.” Hon. Devin Dreeshen, Minister of Agriculture & Forestry, MLA Innisfail – Sylvan Lake
“Sylvan Lake has a long history of being a recreational hub, and as a community, we are constantly striving for excellence – part of that includes expanding access to recreational opportunities for our residents, and visitors. Through this latest provincial funding initiative, our community can continue to expand access to both a greater range of outdoor recreational amenities, as well as provide better access to our existing indoor recreation amenities – all the while, creating local job opportunities!” – Mayor Sean McIntyre, Town of Sylvan Lake
Background
The Provincial Government’s Municipal Stimulus Program is to provide additional capital infrastructure, funding to municipalities and Metis Settlements to:
- Sustain and create local jobs
- Enhance provincial competitiveness and productivity
- Position communities to participate in future economic growth
- Reduce municipal red tape to promote job-creating private sector investment
As part of the funding, Municipalities are required to commit to taking concrete actions to reduce red tape and encourage private sector investment. The Town of Sylvan Lake presented a Red Tape Reduction Report at a regular meeting of Council on January 25th.
