Sylvan Lake Begins Heritage Management Plan Project
Posted on Thursday August 01, 2024
The Town of Sylvan Lake is developing a Heritage Management Plan with the help of the Sylvan Lake Archives. The plan honours the community’s desire to preserve and celebrate the Town's historic buildings, which are an important part of character and history. The project will inventory, preserve, document, and celebrate Sylvan Lake’s heritage assets while planning for ongoing heritage asset preservation. The project will take place in several phases over the next few years.
Phases
- Heritage Survey: a comprehensive database of historical buildings and sites
- Heritage Inventory: detailed descriptions and official statements of significance for each site
- Heritage Management Plan: guides the long-term preservation of these heritage assets
Heritage Management Program
The Heritage Management Plan project forms the basis for a Heritage Management Program, which includes:
- Criteria for evaluating historic sites
- Heritage property designation program
- Public awareness initiatives
- Resources for property owners interested in preservation
Historical Video Project
- The Heritage Management Plan project coincides with a separate Historical Video Project. The video project will document the local histories of Sylvan Lake residents
Funding
- This project is funded by Alberta's Heritage Preservation Partnership Program
