New "exchange zone" means added safety for members of the public
The Sylvan Lake RCMP detachment has created an exchange zone for the public to use.
The purpose of this new zone, is to allow the public the ability to meet others when they need to exchange something (think an unused guitar, or a patio set). This safe-exchange site is located in the front parking lot of the RCMP detachment (4260 - 50 Street), on the north side; a new "exchange zone" sign has been installed, and two designated parking spots have been reserved.
“When you make a purchase or sale from a social media app and need to meet someone whom you don’t know, these spots are for you. If you don’t feel safe having someone come to your residence, we want you to use these parking spots. If someone isn’t willing to meet you at a police station, that’s a sign something isn’t right.” - Staff Sergeant Jeff McBeth, Detachment Commander
The Sylvan Lake RCMP feel this is another step forward in proactively reducing crime in the community.
