EV Charging Stations Grant Awarded
The Town of Sylvan Lake is excited to announce we recently received a grant to install eleven electric vehicle charging stations. The grant is from the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre, a partnership of Alberta Municipalities, Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta. Station locations are planned for the NexSource Centre, Centennial Park, and the Library parking lot. Construction and installation wraps up this year.
Grant details:
- The grant dollars cover 100 percent of the cost of the installation project which comes to a total of $199,958.83
- Charging stations are pay per use
Charging stations:
- Eleven charging stations total
- Five Level 2 charging stations
- Each station can charge 2 vehicles at the same time
- Level 2 Charging stations utilize 240 volts and can fully charge an EV in five to 10 hours
- Locations: Centennial Park, Library parking lot, NexSource Centre
- One Level 3 fast charger
- Level 3 Charging Stations use high voltages to charge the batteries which can be topped up to 80 percent battery life in as little as half an hour
- Location: NexSource Centre
Construction:
- Centennial Park stations
- Started in September 2022
- Library Parking lot and the NexSource Centre
- To be completed in spring 2023

More Details:
- Level 2 Charging stations utilize 240 volts and can fully charge an EV in five to 10 hours
- Level 3 Charging Stations use high voltages to charge the batteries which can be topped up to 80 percent battery life in as little as half an hour
- Some vehicles are not compatible with the Level 3 Stations
- We are mapping our charging stations to help drivers plan their trips
