Flatten the curve
How preventative measures reduce strain on resources

UPDATED FEBRUARY 10, 2021

The Government of Alberta has introduced the following province-wide, mandatory measures:

SOCIAL GATHERINGS

  • All indoor – public and private – are prohibited. This does not apply to service visits from caregivers, health or child care providers and co-parenting arrangements.
  • Close contacts are limited to household members only. Individuals who live alone may have the same two non-household close contacts for the duration of this restriction.
  • Outdoor gatherings of no more than 10 are permitted
  • Wedding services restricted to 10 attendees; funeral services are restricted to 20; attendees must maintain physical distance of 2 metres, and wear masks.

MANDATORY MASKING

  • The mandatory indoor public masking requirement will be extended province-wide.
  • Applies to all indoor workplaces and facilities outside the home. Applies to employees, visitors and the general public. Farm operations are excluded.

BUSINESS RESTRICTIONS | BUSINESS & RESIDENT SUPPORTS

To review the list of restricted access to some businesses, provincial and federal-level supports for businesses and residents, and to view additional province-wide measures, please visit the Alberta Government's COVID-19 website.

WHAT ELSE YOU CAN DO

We must continue following existing public health measures to keep ourselves and others safe:

  • Keep 2 metres apart
  • Wear a mask
  • Practice good hygiene: wash your hands often and cover coughs and sneezes
  • Monitor your symptoms every day
  • If sick, stay home, get tested, and follow mandatory isolation requirements while waiting for results:
    • if positive, isolate from others for 10 days or until symptoms are gone, whichever is longer
    • if negative, stay home until you're better
  • Avoid non-essential travel
  • Get the flu shot to keep influenza cases low so health workers can focus on the COVID-19 pandemic

Additional information on the new measures can be found here, along with guidance on gatherings and cohorts, as well as masking best practices.

RV Parking for Health Workers Isolating | Additionally, thanks to a very thoughtful online feedback submission from a member of the public, the Town of Sylvan Lake has introduced a process to allow health practitioners and community health nurses (and/or member of their immediate family), to park a recreational vehicle on a town street for the specific use and purpose of occupation to isolate or quarantine, due to COVID-19. Individuals that fit this description, must apply for a permit, and may start this process by calling the Town of Sylvan Lake at 403 887 2141.
