Mayor Megan Hanson and Council presented firefighter Jason Morgan with a 12-year Provincial Service Award at the Regular Meeting of Council on October 15.
Mayor Hanson shared these words:
Good evening everyone,
Tonight, we have the distinct honor of recognizing one of our very own for a remarkable milestone. Jason Morgan, after 12 years of dedicated service, is receiving his Provincial Service Medal - a true testament to his commitment to the safety and well-being of our community. Jason joined the Sylvan Lake Fire Department back in July 2012, a young man fresh out of high school. Since then, we’ve watched him grow into a husband. He is a father to Emerly and Loklan, and a vital part of the team here in Sylvan Lake. He’s always had a smile on his face and a positive attitude, no matter the challenges that came his way. Beyond his professional certifications - which he has many of - Jason has truly gone above and beyond. He’s represented us on wildfire deployments, showing his bravery and skill in the faceof dangerous situations. But Jason’s impact goes far beyond technical expertise. He’s a firefighter who understands the importance of family, and we’re grateful to his wife Katrina and their children for their support of his role in our community. Jason’s family-first approach is part of what makes him not just a great firefighter, but a great person. Despite his busy life, he has consistently shown up for Sylvan Lake, embodying the spirit of service. It’s people like Jason and Katrina who make our community stronger, and it’s because of Jason's dedication and heart that we celebrate him tonight. Jason, on behalf of myself, council, and the residents of Sylvan Lake, thank you for your 12 years of unwavering service. We are truly fortunate to have you with us, and we look forward to many more years of your leadership and kindness.
Congratulations, and thank you for all that you do!
