Fibre-Optic Installation

Construction of new fibre-optic infrastructure is taking place in Sylvan Lake, starting in September 2025.
TELUS and F3 Networks are installing TELUS PureFibre services in our community this September. This work will add enhanced internet speeds in Sylvan Lake.
Please note: This is not Town of Sylvan Lake project. All inquiries and concerns should be directed to F3 Networks Canada Inc. as they are the project leaders.
A Canadian company registered with the CRTC as a telecommunications carrier. F3 has a commercial agreement with TELUS to bring PureFibre services to Sylvan Lake.
Many residents may have already received letters and construction notices from F3 Networks. These letters outline the work being done and give Lakers the opportunity to take advantage of fibre-optic service, through TELUS, at a future date.
Work will be carried out one zone at a time. Construction of each zone will take about two months (weather permitting). Work will include directional drilling and hydrovaccing in Town boulevards or utility right-of-ways owned by the Town to install the fibre-optic network.
Affected residents will be notified by F3 Networks before work begins. While work is in progress residents may experience:
- sidewalk detours
- construction noise
- temporary barricading of work zones on Town owned boulevards or utility right-of-ways and/or easements using plywood and temporary fencing.
- Necessary re-seeding may have to be paused until Spring and Summer months when seeds will germinate.
Town owned boulevards are typically 17m wide and typically extend a couple meters behind the edge of sidewalk or back of curb.
Refer to this video for more information on what to expect during construction.

F3 Networks and/or TELUS may approach homeowners in an active work zone to ask if they would like fibre-optic cable services extended to their house. This is completely optional. If a homeowner chooses to opt-in to this service, F3 Networks will perform shallow trenching work on privately owned land.
Work cannot be completed outside of boulevards and utility right-of-ways without a homeowner’s permission. Lakers are not obligated to provide permission to have this installed on their property.
NOTE: Construction work is necessary to install the service line so that you can access fibre-optic, when it becomes available.
Any questions about the project or concerns about restoration should be directed to F3 Network customer service, directly.
You can find additional information about the project announcement on the TELUS website.
