You need a special event permit for any event on Town property, or in a Town facility when the facility is used for something besides the intended purpose.

Please consider all special event regulations and application deadlines prior to applying for a special event permit.

Special Event Rules and Regulations 

Special Events Policy 

Application deadlines depend on the type of event you're hosting. The minimum application approval times range from one to three months.

Application approval is sometimes dependant on the number of applications submitted at any time.

Category Description Minimum Approval Time
A

Events that require a road closure on an arterial roadway, and events including special circumstances or approvals.

3 months
B

Events that require a road closure, expect more than 500 attendees, and/or include alcohol.

 2 months
C

Events held on all other municipal property, including parking lots, trails, and parks.

1 month

To apply for a special event permit, send the Special Event Permit Application, and include the following information:

  • Type of event
  • Date and time of the event
  • Place of the event, including any route maps or site maps
  • Estimated number of people taking part in the event
  • A list of equipment required for the event
  • Weather contingency plans
  • Contact information for the person managing the event
  • A valid certificate of insurance with a minimum of $2 million liability coverage

Park access permits

A park access permit (open spaces) is required for any person or group intending to use a park or green space for short-term vehicle or equipment access. To determine whether you require a park access permit, contact 403 887 2800.

Applicants should allow five business days for the processing of the permit.

Seasonal Docks 

A park space permit is required for a semi-waterfront property owner who wishes to place a seasonal dock or other mooring structure into the lake.  Semi-waterfront property is a parcel of land that is separated from the lake by an Environmental Reserve that is owned by the Town.  Semi-waterfront landowners must submit a Park Space Permit for Seasonal Mooring Structure application prior to placing their dock into the lake.
