- The spray park is equipped with activation buttons, which means water is only used when activated, rather than running constantly. This helps to reduce water usage
- In the event the Town reaches Stage 2 Water Restrictions, the Spray Park will operate on reduced hours during the restriction
- Once the Town reaches Stage 3 Water Restrictions, the Spray Park will not operate, until restriction levels are reduced back to Stage 2
-

Rules and etiquette
Disc Golf is played like traditional ball golf, but with discs and baskets instead of balls and clubs. You can choose to play nine holes or eighteen holes.
- One stroke is counted each time the disc is thrown or a penalty is incurred
- The objective is to play each hole in the fewest strokes possible
- The players with the lowest total strokes for the entire course wins; or try to beat your own best score. Have fun!
Safety First! Before throwing, always wait for other park users, they have the right of way.
Throwing
- Each hole begins with a tee throw. Look for the signs for tee locations.
Throwing Order
- The player with the lowest score on the previous hole is the first to tee off on the next hole.
- After teeing off, the player whose disc is the farthest away from the hole always throws first.
- Players on higher # holes have right of way over lower # holes.
Out of Bounds
- Water hazards, public roads, back yards, fenced areas, paved pathways and mulched areas are out of bounds (OB).
Course Courtesy
- Respect neighbors, other players and park users
- Do not alter the course in any way (trees, bushes, trails, etc.)
- Help new players learn the rules and how to play
- Remain quiet and avoid moving while others are throwing
- Stand behind the player who is throwing until throw is complete
- Allow faster groups to play through when possible
- Leave the course cleaner than you found it
- Done playing 18? Do not throw between 18 and 1, restart at tee 1 or any other tee
- Disc golf rules

The Town has no jurisdiction, oversight, or programs to control the water level in the lake. The lake level fluctuates due to environmental factors and is cyclical over time, with no interference from the Town.
Based on local research, evaporation is the main factor in Sylvan Lake’s water levels. Here’s an excerpt from The Alberta Lake Management Society Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program Sylvan Lake 2009 Report:
There has been a general trend of water level decline in Sylvan Lake from 1990 – 2006, followed by a recovery to historical levels from 2005 – 2009 (Figure 2). During this period the maximum lake elevation occurred in 1992, measuring 937.1 m above sea level. The lowest lake level since 1990 was experienced in 2004 recorded at 936.4 m asl.
The catchment to lake surface area ratio of Sylvan Lake is small (only 2.5 times the lake area) and as such there is likely little incoming water from the drainage basin potentially contributing to changes in water level. This is further supported by the intermittent nature of the inflowing streams and the presence of numerous submerged springs. Evaporation from the large surface area of Sylvan Lake seems to be the primary outlet for water, since very little water flows out of the lake. Between 1955 and 1976, the outlet stream flowed only during part of three years. Thus Sylvan Lake’s water balance is controlled by direct evaporation and precipitation at the lake’s surface.

Trail Etiquette
Share the trail responsibly. Please follow the rules below so the trails are safe and enjoyable for everyone.
- Keep to the right of the pathway, except to pass or turn left;
- Move off the trail, to the right, when stopping;
- Yield to slower moving traffic:
- cyclists to pedestrians
- joggers to walkers
- Move to the right side of the trail for less mobile users.
Use proper skating and braking techniques – learn these techniques before using the trails. Remain at a safe speed, so you can quickly brake or stop if needed.
Remember to shoulder check and look behind you each time you turn or move out to pass, and always use your hand signals.
Trails provide opportunities for all. Lead by example and help teach each other proper trail etiquette.
Some ideas?!
- Place trash in waste bins; where not immediately accessible, carry it with you until you can dispose of properly;
- Do not block trail access; whether you're practicing a skateboard trick, or walking as a group, allow others to pass with ease;
- Wave and say 'hello'! These are your neighbours you're passing along the trail; a pleasant wave, or a friendly smile helps create a stronger community, and makes user feel safe.
Please ensure your dog is on-leash when using our trails. Outside of our off-leash dog park, all dogs must remain leashed at all times when in public space.
Policies, permits, and park use
Tent restrictions are now in place along areas of Sylvan Lake
- Tents or sunshades larger than one square meter (or approximately 3.3 feet by 3.3 feet) are not allowed in a new restricted zone along the beach. This zone is north of the asphalt walking trail along the beach from west of the Pier to the east area of Centennial Park.
- There are no tent restrictions south of the path. Anyone wishing to use a tent can do so there, and into Centennial Park.
- The map showing the new tent restrictions is available online.
- Council passed Second and Third reading of the amended Parks Bylaw at the June 24, 2024 Regular Meeting of Council.
- Turf Maintenance Policy: Public parks and sports fields are cut about once per week, when in season
- Snow and Ice Control Policy: Trails are cleared regularly, details are here
- Driving through parks: An Open Space Permit is required to park or drive a private vehicle through or on a public park
