Sylvan Link is a New Program Aimed at Helping Residents Financially While Supporting Local Businesses

The Sylvan Link Card is an initiative that contributes to the overall wellbeing of Sylvan Lake and area residents by providing low-income families and individuals access to a variety of services at a reduced rate.

Residents Information:

Qualified Link Card holders can receive discounts at participating businesses, increasing access to affordable transportation, recreation, programs, and other everyday essentials. To qualify, you must be within the below income requirements.

Business Information:

The Sylvan Link Card encourages local businesses to give back to the community by offering select discounts that support their business model. Although aimed to help residents, The Sylvan Link Card encourages card holders to shop locally – bringing in additional business, supporting Sylvan Lake and area businesses.

  • Utility Disconnection. May be able to cover the cost for utility disconnections. The applicant must be able to provide a disconnection notice. All applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Income Support. Monthly benefits for those people who no longer qualify for EI but are unable to find employment. Medical benefits are also available for those who qualify with a note from a doctor confirming the applicant is unable to work.

Care-A-Van

  • The CARE-a-van assists local organizations, for profits, non-profits, and businesses to attend social, cultural, arts & recreation events (CARE)
  • The CARE-a-van is not used for transportation of individuals and/or families for personal use, medical appointments, and/or personal events

About the van

  • Maximum capacity of 22 persons not including the driver
  • Space for up to four (4) wheelchairs, and an electric lift for access
  • Seatbelts
  • Fire extinguisher, basic first aid kit, an emergency kit, emergency response information kit, spare tire/tire change kit, extension cord, and roadside assistance kit
  • The van is not equipped to carry ambulatory care equipment that cannot be locked in and secured (scooters, walkers, etc.)
  • The vehicle cannot transport infants or children requiring child seats

How to book

  1. Complete the CARE-a-van booking request form 
  2. Schedule an appointment with the Transportation Administrator, 403 887 1137 Ext. 400 | Email 
  3. Take the printed copy of your form to your appointment at the Wellness & Community Connections Centre, 4725 - 43 Street
  4. Review and agree to the booking requirements below 

Care-a-van Booking Requirements

  • Driver must be verified by the Transportation Administrator or designate 
  • Valid Class 4 Driver’s License
  • Criminal/Vulnerable Sector Checks indicating a negative record
  • Current Driver’s Abstract indicating a negative record
  • Registered with the Town of Sylvan Lake Volunteer Centre

For profits and businesses

  • $65.00 per hour not to exceed 8 hours per day billing for a total of $490.00 per full day rental, plus $0.40 per kilometre

Non-profit groups

  • $47.50 per hour not to exceed 8 hours per day billing to a total of $350.00 per full day rental, plus $0.20 per kilometre

Gas: all users

  • A full tank of gas at the time of pick-up, with the user group responsible to return with a full tank
  • If the group fails to fill the tank, a charge is applied (cost to fill the tank + an extra $0.05 per litre)

Deposit: all users

  • 3 hour minimum deposit required at time of booking
  • Deposit is refundable if more than 24 hours' notice is given for cancellation
