In the event of a power outage, contact Fortis at 310 9473, or visit the Fortis Power Outage Interactive Map
During a power outage:
- Check with neighbours to see if they are experiencing a power outage;
- During a neighbourhood-wide outage, unplug all appliances to avoid power surges once power is restored;
- Shut off all lights, and computer equipment. Leave one light on to signal a power return;
- Contact FORTIS (310 9473);
- Report downed power lines to 911, and FORTIS. Downed wires are live- stay away;
- Turn on a battery-powered radio or local web-based news stations for updates;
- To determine whether your natural gas furnace or natural gas fireplace burner needs electricity or not, consult the manufacturer.
- Remember that refrigerated and frozen food may spoil during prolonged power outages;
- Do not use the telephone- doing so ties up phone lines and networks;
- If your home is the only home in the neighbourhood experiencing a power outage, check your fuse box/service breaker panel, or contact FORTIS, or professional electrician to assist.
