Council Made Two Proclomations
- National Day for Truth & Reconciliation
- WHEREAS the Town of Sylvan Lake is committed to true and lasting reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, the prevention of racism and the violence/bullying, the intergenerational trauma and loss of life from the residential school system;
- AND WHEREAS the Town of Sylvan Lake affirms that, “Every Child Matters”: and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation symbolizes support for the safety and self-esteem of Indigenous children;
- AND WHEREAS the Town of Sylvan Lake encourages residents to wear an orange shirt to honour all who have been impacted by the residential school system and to continue to work together towards reconciliation;
- NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Megan Hanson, Mayor of Sylvan Lake, do hereby affirm our community as a place where cultural diversity is celebrated, and do proclaim September 30 2022, to be the Town of Sylvan Lake’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
- World Cerebral Palsy Day
- WHEREAS Cerebral Palsy affects all levels of society and all levels of socioeconomic status;
- AND WHEREAS Cerebral Palsy affects an estimated 17 million people worldwide;
- AND WHEREAS The Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta (CPAA) is a leader in advocating for persons with disabilities and is the primary center for providing programs, services and information on treatments, resources and services relating to Cerebral Palsy;
- NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Megan Hanson, Mayor of Sylvan Lake, and on behalf of Council for the Town of Sylvan Lake, do hereby proclaim the October 6, 2022, as World Cerebral Palsy Day in the Town of Sylvan Lake.
A New Deputy Director of Emergency Management
- Council approves the appointment of Lee Furlotte as Deputy Director of Emergency Management for the Town of Sylvan Lake, removing CAO Sean Durkin from the role
Public Works
- Council gives pre-budget approval to Phase 3 of the 50 Avenue Modernization (45 Street to 49 Street) as outlined in the 10-year capital plan; they also approved a budget adjustment for Phase 2 of $300,000 funded frmo the 2022 MSI capital allocations
