Proclamations 

  • Council proclaimed August 7 - 13, 2022 as Pride Week in the Town of Sylvan Lake. 

Public Hearings and Delegations 

  • The Public Hearing on Bylaw 1862/2022, Land Use Bylaw Amendment to Redesignate the Vistas received no input. Mayor Hanson declared the Public Hearing closed and cautioned that Council would receive no further input regarding the Bylaw. 

Planning & Development 

  • Hanson declared the Public Hearing closed and cautioned that Council would receive no verbal or written statements regarding the Bylaw once the Public Hearing is closed. 
  • Council denied the development Permit for Additional Use to Existing Music Studio at 4001 Lakeshore Drive. 
  • Council approved the amendments to The Vistas at Ryders Ridge Outline Plan as presented in Report AIR-613.  
  • Council granted second and third reading to Bylaw 1862/2022, being a bylaw to amend the Town’s Land Use Bylaw 1695/2022 as requested in Report AIR-612.  
  • Council granted first reading to Bylaw 1863/2022, being a bylaw to amend the Town’s Land Use Bylaw 1695/2015 as requested in Report AIR-611. Council set August 22, 2022, at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Government Building as the date, time and place for the Public Hearing for Bylaw 1863/2022. 
  • Council denied the Development Permit 130-2022 for a deck in a front yard located at 5007 40 Street (Lot 33, Block 7, Plan 8037AO) as presented in AIR-608. 

Administration 

Council granted second and third reading to the Municipal By-Election Bylaw 1865/2022, as outlined in Report AIR-617. 

Council accepted the 2022 Municipal By-Election Project Work Plan as information. 

Council accepted the following Public Works Q2 Project Status reports as information: 

  • CP1603 50 Avenue Reconstruction 
  • CP2114 46 Street Storm Main Upgrade 
  • CP1729 46 Street & 47 Avenue Traffic Signals 
  • CP1803 50 Avenue Repaving 50 Street to Westview Drive 
  • CP2207 West Village Modernization 
  • CP2023 60 Street and Memorial Trail Intersection Upgrade 
  • CP1902 Memorial Trail – 60 Street West 

Council accepted the following Economic Development Q2 Project Status Reports as information: 

  • 2022 Business Resilience Strategy 
  • 2022 Win This Space 
  • Investment Attraction Strategy 
  • Waterfront Commercial District Committee 
  • Wayfinding – Entry Point Signage – CP1737  

Parks & Protective Services 

  • Council approved the first reading of the Vehicle for Hire Business Bylaw 1866/2022, as presented. 

Public Works 

  • Budget Appropriation 50a Avenue Modernization: Council directed Administration to reduce the scope of Civic Works and carry out the proposed additional work for the relocation and burial of the powerlines under the previously approved budget. 

Recreation, Culture & Tourism 

  • Council supported Administration’s request to seek assistance in the development and execution of a business visitation program. 
  • Council directed Administration to move $5,500.00 from Line 250 Contracted Services to OP2024 Business Resilience Strategy as presented in Report AIR-604. 

Council Request for Information/Updates 

  • Mayor Hanson asked Council to add the topic of Advocacy Funding to the pre-budget meeting for the fall. One Advocacy Priority is Resort Municipality Status. The Town of Canmore recommended performing a study to collect accurate data for advocating to the Province to get resort municipality status.
