Pilot Skate Park Ambassador Project

Posted on:

The Town of Sylvan Lake is embarking on a pilot “Skate Park Ambassador Project”, as part of the Town’s ongoing efforts to provide a safe and welcoming skate/action sports park experience for all users.

As part of the pilot, a Skate Park Ambassador is scheduled to remain on-site, Tuesdays through Saturdays, during the hours of 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM, between now and mid-September. While on duty, the Ambassador’s role is to engage with users, and help foster healthy relationships within the skate and action sport community. Additional responsibilities include daily maintenance of the facility, with increased attention to health and safety measures as we navigate our way through the COVID-19 pandemic. Where permissible, the Ambassador may also help educate park users with proper park etiquette, and skate techniques.

From previous engagement sessions with the Skate Park/Action Sport community, the Town learned that music was often a source of contention between varying age groups. The pilot project includes the addition of a mobile tent/speaker system to play amplified “all-age-appropriate” music.

*Please note that as per our 2020 Skate Park Enhancement Project, the Skate Park is scheduled to close June 24 and 25, as we complete concrete work. For more information on the this Town project, please visit www.sylvanlake.ca/TownProjects
