Council Highlights: July 8, 2024

PLEASE NOTE: Council highlights are not official meeting minutes. They are a summary of decisions and information from a Regular Council meeting. The meeting minutes are presented for adoption at the next Regular Council meeting.

CONSENT AGENDA
Council approved the following:

  • June 24, 2024 Regular Meeting of Council minutes approved as presented
  • Council approves first reading to amending the Procedure Bylaw
  • Council approves first reading to the Town’s Safey Codes Services Fee Bylaw
  • Council supports the formation of a Sylvan Lake & Area Health Foundation

PUBLIC HEARING

  • Bylaw 1898-2024 LUB Amendments Secondary Suites

PROCLAMATIONS

  • August 11 – 17, 2024, is hereby proclaimed Pride Week in Sylvan Lake
  • August 18, 2024, is hereby proclaimed as Neighbour Day in Sylvan Lake

ADMINISTRATION

  • Council appoints Christine March to the Sylvan Lake Foundation for a term beginning July 8, 2024, and ending on October 25, 2027

PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT

  • Council grants Second and Third Reading to amending the Land Use Bylaw
  • Council accepts the Apartment Incentive Grant Program and authorizes Administration to begin implementing the program
  • Council approves a development permit for a for a mixed use development located at 4515 Lakeshore Drive, with relaxations to:
    • the maximum height of 4 storeys to 5 storeys;
    • the required 54 parking stalls to 47 parking stalls;
    • and the minimum parking stall length for eight stalls from 5.5m to 4.6m, subject to a number of conditions
  • Council approves a development permit for a projecting sign, located at 5015 50 Street with relaxations to sign regulations to allow for:
    • the top of the projecting sign to exceed the maximum height above grade
    • to extend above the eave line of the building and;
    • to allow a relaxation to allow for the maximum sign area, subject to a list of conditions
  • Council awards the RFP to Superior Safety Codes Inc. and direct Administration to enter into contract negotiations for safety codes services for a five (5) year term
