PLEASE NOTE: Council highlights are not official meeting minutes. They are a summary of decisions and information from a Regular Council meeting. The meeting minutes are presented for adoption at the next Regular Council meeting.

PROCLAMATIONS

  • Mayor Hanson proclaims the following for the Town of Sylvan Lake:
    • May 28th, 2025, to be Menstrual Health Day
    • June 2-8, 2025, to be Alberta Seniors Week
    • June 2025 to be Recreation and Parks Month

PUBLIC HEARING

  • Trina Lamanes, Senior Planner, Planning and Development, presented information to Public Hearing Bylaw 1925-2025

CONSENT AGENDA

  • Council accepts or approves the following, as presented in the consent agenda:
    • May 7, 2025 Committee of the Whole Meeting Minutes
    • May 12, 2025 Regular Meeting of Council Meeting Minutes
    • Economic Development Project Status report
    • Request to pause the Rural Entrepreneur Stream Program; administration to assess the program and evaluate community needs
    • Leave of Absence by Mayor Hanson for the Committee of the Whole on April 2, 2025, for the purpose of Council Related Business
    • Request to Attend Meeting Electronically by Mayor Hanson for the Regular Meeting of Council on June 9, 2025, for the purpose of Council Related Business

LAND USE BYLAW

  • Council grants Second and Third Reading to Bylaw 1925/2025 as presented in AIR-1164, being a bylaw to amend the Land Use Bylaw 1695/2015

UNPAID EXPENSES

  • Council approves adding the unpaid expenses and costs incurred by the Town for the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to properties, to the tax rolls of the following properties, effective June 1, 2025. The properties include:

    • 1 Pickering Close | $341.25
    • 5003 - 43 Street | $84.00
    • 4314 - 48 Ave | $252.50
    • 3914 - 50 Ave | $141.75

ELECTION BUSINESS

  • Council gives Second and Third reading of the Election Count Bylaw 1924-2025 for the 2025 Municipal Election
  • Council gives Second and Third reading to Bylaw 1926-2025 to have the poll hours be extended to 8AM to 8PM

MEETING DATES AND TIME CHANGE

  • Council accepts the amended schedule of meetings for the 2025 Council calendar year beginning June 10, 2025, and proceeding through until the next Organizational Meeting, to start at 4:00 PM in Council Chambers
  • Council directs Administration to bring forward amendments to Procedure Bylaw No. 1886-2023 that reflect the new Meeting Schedule within the month of June 2025

CROSSWALK DATA

  • Council directs administration to collect data to evaluate and determine if a marked crosswalk is warranted on Parson Drive at Peterson Way
