December 9 Council Meeting Highlights

Grant Applications

  • Council supported the 2024 grant funding application under the Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership program for the design and construction of the South Reservoir Water Supply System and Additional Wells (Phase 1). 
  • Council directed Administration to apply for the Can Export Grant for Sylvan Lake's Investor Insight Initiative.

Town of Sylvan Lake Grant Approvals

  • Council approved the CP Blakely School Parent Council Fundraising Society Playground Replacement Project Grant Application for $7,500.
  • Council approved the Steffie Woima Elementary School Parent Advisory Society Playground Project Grant Application for $7,500.

Policy

  • Council accepted the revised Multi-Family Tax Grant Policy.

Meetings

  • Council approved moving the January 02, 2025, Committee of the Whole Meeting to February 1, 2025. 

Reports

  • Council accepted the third quarter financial reports for the period ending September 30th, 2024.

Planning and Development

  • Council granted second and third reading to Bylaw 1907/2024, being a bylaw to amend the Land Use Bylaw 1695/2015 to re-designate a portion of Lot 75, Block 2, Plan 232 0756.

Budget

  • Council approved an interim operating budget for 2025 including all operating initiatives outlined during budget deliberations and in accordance with Section 242 of the MGA for $15.0 million.
  • Council approved the 2025 capital budget.
  • Council approved the 5-year capital plan.
  • Council approved the circulation of the proposed 2025 Operating Budget to the public for input with adoption of the final 2025 Operating Budget scheduled for March 24th, 2025 Regular Council Meeting.
  • Council set the date of the public open house session for the proposed 2025 Operating Budget to: Tuesday, February 25, 2025, 4:00 – 7:00 PM the NexSource Centre.

Other Business

  • Council accepted the application to incorporate the non-profit society and the society bylaws and Council authorized Administration to submit the application to Corporate Registries.
  • Council appointed Betty Osmond as the interim CAO starting January 2, 2025.
  • Council moved to a closed meeting to discuss Advice from Officials and this item shall remain confidential pursuant to Section 24(1)(b)(i) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, RSA 2000, c F-25, and Section 197(2) of the Municipal Government Act, RSA 2000, c M-26.
