Reminder | Fireworks and related devices

The Town of Sylvan Lake, and the Sylvan Lake Fire Department are reminding the public that the following are NOT permitted within the community:
- Fireworks
- Sparklers
- Bottle Rockets
- Firecrackers
- Sky (Chinese) Lanterns
“We’re aware of a few incidents in town, as recently as Thursday evening, with members of the public igniting low-level fireworks; with the weather shaping up prior to this weekend, we want to be very clear that we have no tolerance for the use of these hazardous items.”

These low-level fireworks pose a significant safety and fire risk, and penalties exist for anyone caught igniting such items. Speaking specifically to Sky Lanterns, many people do not realize that they are banned throughout Alberta, due to the fire hazard they create.
