Sylvan Lake Provincial Park Deregulation and Divestiture to the Town of Sylvan Lake

Posted on:

On November 29, 2016, the Town of Sylvan Lake announced we were moving forward with plans seek approval for a transition of ownership for the Sylvan Lake Provincial Park. The past two years have seen increased discussion and interest in transitioning the land from the provincial park status to a municipal one. The move is taken in an effort to increase our access to the lake, create opportunties to better manage park visitor experience, and contribute to ongoing municipal efforts to expand local tourism economy.

Since this time, we have submitted our request to the Provincial Government, which includes a requested funding allocation from the Province to the Town in the amount of $1.96 million. Alberta Parks has also acknowledged our request, and has launched a 60-day public consultation period.

Albertans are encouraged to share their input with Alberta Parks online prior to May 15, 2017.
