Sylvan Lake Recognizing Day of Mourning

The Town of Sylvan Lake recognizes Monday September 19, 2022 as a day of mourning following the recent passing of Queen Elizabeth II. This is in conjunction with the announcement from the Prime Minister’s Office honouring a day of memorial for Her Majesty and the announcement from the Government of Alberta.

How Does This Affect Lakers?

  • The Municipal Government Building (5012 48 Avenue), Municipal Operations Building (1 Industrial Drive), Municipal Enforcement Building (4260 50 Street) and Fire Hall (2 Beacon Hill Drive) are closed to the public
  • The NexSource Centre (4823 49 Avenue) remains open with regular programming
  • The Waste Transfer Site (5150 30 Street) reamins open
  • The Family & Community Centre (4725 - 43 Street) continues to offer scheduled recreation programs and Flipside Youth Centre after school drop-in programs run as scheduled


More details on the ceremony to honour Her late Majesty are on the Province's website. The ceremony is livestreamed there and on Government of Alberta social media channels.


The public is invited to sign books of condolence at the Alberta legislature and other provincial buildings until 4:00 PM on Sunday, September 18, 2022 and online until noon on Monday, September 19, 2022.
