Sylvan Lake’s 2018 Visitor Pay Parking Season a successful one

Posted on:

Town Council recently reviewed the results of the 2018 Visitor Pay Parking Season. Director of Community Services, Ron Lebsack announced that the Town generated more revenue than what was anticipated; the 2018 season generated $248,382, which is $48,382 more than projected.

The Visitor Pay Parking Program is in effect daily, from May 15th to September 15th. The program’s main objective is to generate a revenue for the upkeep and maintenance of the downtown, as well as to enhance enforcement required along the waterfront.

Visitors to Sylvan Lake pay $2.00/hour, $10.00/day, or have the option of purchasing a seasonal pass for $126.50. Free parking for visitors is available at a number of locations throughout the waterfront.

We are very pleased with the success of this (Visitor Pay Parking) program. We heard some concerns that it could deter visitors, or that the public would struggle with the change, but overall what we’ve seen is a lot of support for the program.” – Ron Lebsack, Director of Community Services

Having reviewed the 2018 Visitor Pay Parking Report, Town Council directed Administration to include the residential section of town, north of 33 Street, as part of the designated “Resident Only Parking” zone; however, no other changes are expected for the 2019 season.

Currently, net revenue from the program is directed back into the Parks Capital Reserve until the borrowed amount is replaced (estimated at 2+ years).
