Council Highlights: March 9, 2020

ADMINISTRATION

Council appointed Ms. Christina Lust to the Sylvan Lake Municipal Library Board for a term to expire October 2021.

CORPORATE SERVICES

Council granted second and third reading to Bylaw 1802/2020, the Regional Assessment Review Board Bylaw.

PARKS & PROTECTIVE SERVICES

Council approved report AIR-182, the Lakefront Usage Strategy, as presented.

PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT

Council granted second and third reading to Bylaw 1799/2020, to amend the Town’s Safety Codes Services Fee Bylaw 1678/2015, as requested in AIR-175.

Council granted first reading to Bylaw 1804/2020, to amend the Town’s Subdivision Authority Bylaw 1727/2017, as requested in AIR-143.

RECREATION, CULTURE, AND TOURISM

Council granted second and third reading of Bylaw 1803/2020, report AIR-183, to amend the Community Services Fee Bylaw 1769/2018. Amendments include, but are not limited to:

  • Adding rental fees for the golf and batting cages;
  • Removal of child-minding reservation fee and updating to a single drop-in fee;
  • Adding rental fees associated with the mobile stage;
  • Adding rental fees associated with the movie screen.

Centennial Street Market Special Event Application

Council approved the Centennial Street Market Event, Report Number AIR-180, provided some conditions are met:

  • A road closure application must be submitted to the Town of Sylvan Lake Public Works Department at least 30 days in advance;
  • A Town of Sylvan Lake Business License must be obtained;
  • A road closure notification letter must be delivered to all of the businesses adjacent to the closure to notify them of the closure, and the details of the event.

Proclamation | National Volunteer Week
Mayor Sean McIntyre proclaimed the week of April 17th to 25th, 2020, as National Volunteer Week in the Town of Sylvan Lake, Alberta, and urged residents to recognize the crucial role volunteers play in the community
