Council Highlights: November 8, 2021

PUBLIC HEARINGS & DELEGATIONS 

RCMP gave their quarterly update; highlights included:  

  • 15% decrease in total persons crime 

  • Robbery down 33% 

  • General assaults are down 0.6% 

  • Total prop crime down 9% 

  • Break and enters down by 50% 

  • Theft of motor vehicles even over last quarters report 

  • Theft under 5000 down 3%  

  • Total criminal code offences are down 11% 

  • Overall calls for service are down 

CORPORATE SERVICES 

  • Council accepted the Third Quarter Financial Reports for the period ending September 30th, 2021, as presented in Report AIR-485. 
  • Council accepted the 2021 Third Quarter Public Concerns and Requests, as presented in Report AIR-484. 

PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT 

  • Land Use Bylaw: Council granted first reading to Bylaw 1843/2021, amending the Town’s Land Use Bylaw 1695/2015, as presented in accordance with Report AIR-490.
    Council set December 13, 2021 at 6:00 PM in Council Chambers for a Public Hearing on Bylaw 1843/2021. 
  • Subdivision Authority Bylaw: Council granted first reading to Bylaw 1844/2021, as presented in Report AIR-489, to amend the Subdivision Authority Bylaw 1822/2021. 
  • Development Industry Advisory Committee: Council approved the terms of reference for the Development Industry Advisory Committee as attached in Report AIR-488, increasing membership from eleven (11) to twelve (12) by including an additional Council member. 

PUBLIC WORKS 

  • Sylvan Lake Regional Water and Wastewater Commission: Council agreed to change the name of Sylvan Lake Regional Wastewater Commission to the Sylvan Lake Regional Water and Wastewater Commission. The Sylvan Lake Regional Water and Wastewater Commission is authorized to provide water services in accordance with its bylaws, as presented in Report AIR-487. 

APPOINTMENTS 

  • Council appointed Ms. Melanie Pedersen to the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board.
