Glass Recycling Options | Update

Posted on:

The Town of Sylvan Lake no longer accepts glass as part of our curb-side recycling collection service - this includes glass jars and bottles.

Where can you recycle glass now?

With help from the public, we’ve found a solution that prevents glass from ending up in a landfill...

  • Starting on Friday, June 28th, if you’d like to recycle your glass bottles and jars, residents may bring their glass products to the Waste Transfer Site for no-charge recycling - please observe our Waste Transfer Site summertime hours of operation.

A second glass drop-off bin is expected at the west-end recycle depot, located on 60 Street/Memorial Trail, soon.
  • OR, where applicable, you may still take glass bottles/jars to your nearest bottle depot.

Why the change?

The market for glass recycling is no longer available due to changes within the industry. On a positive note, our recycle depot contractor reports “strong stability” for all other recyclable products, as a result of the company’s extensive global reach.

We’ve launched a new online collection calendar and mobile app to help Sylvan Lakers remember their curb-side collection schedules, and to notify them of important service notices and programs like Large Item Pick-up dates, or changes to our Waste Transfer Site hours.

Head to the app store to download the “Sylvan Lake GoGreen” app, or visit www.sylvanlake.ca/collection to access schedules and sign up for notifications.
