Business Satisfaction Report

A Business Satisfaction Report, prepared by the Sylvan Lake Chamber of Commerce, was recently accepted by Council, and helps both the Town’s Economic Development Department and the Business Recruitment Team, determine the needs of the business community.
To create the report, a survey was conducted with 100 local businesses. The survey included questions such as:
- How many full-time vs part time employees employed
- The type of ownership
- From both a local and a d a provincial level, what issues affect business, and
- Barriers that exist to prevent businesses from purchasing goods/services from other businesses within the community
Highlights within the report include:
- 82% of businesses were either satisfied or very satisfied doing business in Sylvan Lake
- Businesses identified their top provincial challenges as:
- The economy
- Taxes
- Labour costs
- Businesses identified their top local challenges as:
- Cost of business space
- Competition
- Policies & Procedures of the municipal government
- When asked about their hiring intentions for 2020, 26.6% indicated they would be hiring
- 69% of businesses said they procure goods and services from other businesses in Sylvan Lake

As an immediate “next step”, the Town of Sylvan Lake is hosting a procurement presentation and Q & A, to help local business owners and operators gain a better understanding of how to do business with the Town of Sylvan Lake. The presentation will include a review of existing policies and procedures that the municipality must follow with respects to procurement.
The presentation is scheduled for February 26, at 2:00 PM at the NexSource Centre.
